“The Douglas” was a major retrofit of two historic buildings in downtown Wichita, the Exchange Place and Bitting Building.
“The Douglas” offers 240 luxury residential units with over-the-top amenities. The new apartment building sits where the former Lerner and Michigan Buildings were located. Elements of these historical buildings have been re-used to help retain the historic fabric of downtown. In total, the new buildings have more than 24,000 square feet of commercial space available.
The 11-story Bitting Building has 66 apartments ranging from a 440-square-foot studio to a nearly 1,200-square-foot unit. The nine-story Exchange Place building includes 139 apartments ranging from 450 square feet for a studio to 1,300 square feet for a two-bedroom, two-bath unit. The new seven-story building contains 35 apartments in addition to a parking garage for residents of the Bitting Building and Exchange Place. Resident amenities include a rooftop deck with a reflection pool, grills, an outdoor kitchen, fire pits, a dog park and a pet washing station. The apartments feature quartz countertops, oversized stainless kitchen sinks, stainless steel appliances, washers and dryers.
The Douglas Parking structure is 86,000 square feet with 300 total parking spaces. The garage contains 171 stacked parking spaces over existing parking spaces or drive lanes. The garage is fully enclosed with a mechanical exhaust system.
